What Typing Tutor stores, and why

Last updated 11 October 2026

This applies when the service launches

The hosted Typing Tutor service isn't open yet. This page describes how it will handle data once it is. Until then, the only thing running at mytypingtutor.ai is this website, covered in the last section but one.

The short version

  • Kids don't have accounts or email addresses. A parent or teacher creates their profiles.
  • A device only shows the kids it was set up for: one family, or one class.
  • A kid's profile is a display name, an avatar, a PIN and, for school profiles, their class. Then there's their game progress and the stories they write.
  • Story text from the three AI games goes to the safety check and the AI storyteller, and nowhere else.
  • No ads apart from one sponsor line, no tracking or advertising scripts, no selling data. Visits are counted with cookie-free analytics.

Children

Typing Tutor is made for kids aged about 6 to 10, and it's built so that kids never have to give it personal information. At home, a parent signs up with their own email address and creates a profile for each kid. At school, a teacher does the same for their class. The grown-up chooses the display name, the avatar and the PIN, and can change the PIN or delete the profile at any time.

Kids can't chat, message or see what other kids write. Each device is set up for one family or one class, and its avatar picker only shows those kids, so brothers and sisters, or classmates, see each other's display names and nobody else does. A first name or a nickname is all a display name needs to be.

What the service stores

About grown-ups (parents, teachers and school admins)

  • Email address, to sign in and to reset a forgotten password.
  • Password, stored securely in a scrambled form that can't be turned back into the password, so nobody, us included, can read it.
  • Short-lived links for confirming an email address and resetting a password. They expire.
  • Sign-in records, so people stay signed in until they expire.

About each kid

  • Display name and avatar (one of eight animals).
  • PIN, stored the same secure way as passwords. A 4-digit PIN is still easy to guess, which is why the profile locks after ten wrong tries.
  • Class, for school profiles.
  • Game progress: the level, number of rounds and date last played for each game, and a running star total.
  • Stories from The Dragon's Library: what the kid wrote and what the storyteller wrote back. The grown-up can read every one in the dashboard.
  • Two safety counters: how many story lines the safety check has blocked, and recent wrong PIN attempts, which lock the profile after ten wrong tries.
  • Sign-in sessions, as for grown-ups.

About devices

When a grown-up sets up a device for a family or a class, the service keeps a record of that device so it knows which avatars to show on it.

About AI usage

We keep a count of how much each kid profile uses the AI games, so we can keep an eye on running costs. It doesn't include anything the kid wrote.

Where story text goes

When a kid plays The Dragon's Library, Story Potion or Rhyme Time, what they type goes to the safety check and, if it passes, to the AI storyteller, whose reply is checked too. It isn't sent to any other AI company. The other eleven games don't send what a kid types to an AI at all.

Our hosting and AI provider is Cloudflare, Inc. It stores the service's data and runs the safety check and the AI storyteller for us.

Cookies

The app uses cookies only to keep people signed in and to remember which family or class a device was set up for. Sign-in cookies expire after 72 hours for grown-ups and 2 hours for kids. There are no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies.

Who can see what

  • A kid sees their own games, progress and stories.
  • The parent or teacher who manages a profile sees everything listed above for that kid.
  • Kids in the same family or class see each other's display names and avatars on their device's avatar picker. Nobody outside that family or class does.
  • A kid who plays at school and at home has two separate profiles: the school manages one, the parent the other.
  • The people who run Typing Tutor can access the database to keep the service working and to answer requests about it.

What we don't do

  • No ads. Typing Tutor is free because Talisim, a travel eSIM company, sponsors it. Menu screens show "Sponsored by talisim.com" as a link. Talisim doesn't receive any data about you or your kids. If someone taps the link, talisim.com sees that visit the way any website sees a visitor.
  • No tracking. We count visits to the app and this website with our hosting provider's cookie-free web analytics: which page was opened, the page you came from, the browser and device type, the country and how fast the page loaded. It sets no cookies, doesn't follow anyone across other websites and doesn't build a profile of anyone.
  • No selling or renting data, to anyone.
  • No training AI models on kids' stories.

Deleting data

Deleting a kid's profile from the dashboard also deletes their stories, game progress and sessions. The AI usage counts stay, without a name or anything the kid wrote.

There's no self-serve way yet to close a grown-up's account or a school's space. Until there is, that's done by request. A contact address for privacy questions and deletion requests will be published on this page before the service opens.

This website

mytypingtutor.ai is a set of static pages. It has no forms, no sign-up, no cookies of its own and no third-party fonts or images. Apart from its own pages it loads one small, cookie-free analytics script from our hosting provider, which you can see on the Network tab of your browser's developer tools.

It's served by the same hosting provider, which, like any host, processes the requests and may keep short-lived logs that include IP addresses.

Changes

When this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. Anything that changes what's stored or who can see it will be described here before it takes effect.
